Boy or Girl???

Before we get to the meat and potatoes of this post, I thought I'd share our two ultrasound photos with you. It's still so crazy to me! Is this real?! The top one is at 8 weeks, the bottom is at 12 weeks. Our next one is next week (19.5 weeks) and we get to find out if Little BK is a boy or girl! I can hardly wait!

Last month I found these old wives tales on parents.com (find them here). So one night Zach and I decided to go through the list and write our results down to see how accurate they were. You know, just for funsies. I mean, it's a 50/50 chance, right? :) So here are our results (ours are in bold)...

According to the Old Wive's Tales, we are having a BOY! :) Haha. But we'll see what we're really having next week. Seriously, I can't wait!

Zach says whatever the mother's feeling is, is usually right. I'm feeling like it's a boy, but I have flip flopped a little. Oh, and for the record, Zach and I both want a boy, although we'll definitely be happy with either! I think I just want to know more than anything!!!

What about you - did you find out the sex of your baby, or did you wait (or have to wait) until the birth? I always said I would want to wait, but right when I got pregnant, I wanted to know! :)

Weekly Bump Photos (Week 17)

Here we are at week 17! Time is moving pretty fast right now. Busy season definitely helps with that. Only a month to go before the big tax deadline, thank goodness. I decided to do a weekly (or so) check in along with my bump pictures. I found this weekly "interview" from my friend, Sydney's blog and thought it was a great idea! Such a good way to document all the changes, without having to be too creative about it. Haha. It's more for me really, so I can remember this time of our lives years from now. So feel free to skip over it if you get sick of too much baby info. :)

17 Week Interview

How far along? 17 weeks

Baby’s size? A sweet potato(!) Seems so big compared to the poppy seed we started out with :) 

Days until next doc appointment? It was today, but the next one is in a couple weeks - when we find out if we are having a little Dude or Dudette!

Total weight gain/loss? Right now, net zero - I lost 5 pounds when I was so sick (who knew pregnancy could be a diet?!), but now have gained it back.

Maternity clothes?  Not yet, although I am sporting the Belly Band.

Stretch marks?  None so far.

Sleep:  I haven't had trouble going to sleep, thank goodness, but I do wake up a couple times a night to turn over.

Best moment this week:  Seeing my bump get a little bigger and seeing Zach get so excited to meet him/her.

Movement:  I can't feel anything yet... but can't wait til I do!

Food cravings:  No real cravings, but french fries are the only thing that sounds really good. Still having more food aversions than anything.

Anything make you queasy or sick?  Still getting sick... down to once a week now. If I don't keep my belly full, Little BK gets angry... eating every two hours helps.

Have you started to show yet?  A little bit!

Missing anything?  Liking the food I liked before I was prego. Waking up without feeling nauseous.

Gender: We find out in a couple weeks!!

Labor signs?  None yet

Belly button: Still an innie

Wedding rings on or off?  On

Happy or moody most of the time?  Happy and anxious. Mostly just tired (dang you, tax season!)

Weekly symptoms:  Still a little nauseous, ongoing stuffy nose, tired...

Looking forward to:  Feeling Little BK kick!

Weekly Bump Photos! (Weeks 8-14)

Hi guys! I'm back for a hot minute to share some of my weekly bump pictures! We started taking these at 8 weeks, and now we are up to 14 (already?!). I wanted to keep them simple with me wearing the same thing each week so you could really see the changes. I like how they are turning out so far, well most of them. :) I got a plain white nightie from Amazon (my favorite... what can't you get there?) and voila. I just hope it fits for the whole 40, but we'll see. Here they are!

Our Very Exciting News!

Yes, it's true! We're having a BABY! So crazy and surreal still, but we are beyond excited! Both our families are over the moon since this will be the first grandchild on both sides (um, can you say spoiled?!). The official due date is August 23rd and we can't wait to find out (in April) if we will be having a little dude or dudette. Most of all I am just excited for how much this little kid is already loved (we are calling him/her Little BK, short for Baby Kane). 

So far I've been feeling pretty crummy... morning sickness and the whole bit. But I'm hoping (and praying) that will be coming to an end shortly as I enter my second trimester in the next week or so. It's not fun, but worth it in the end. It's just so interesting all the changes your body goes through - definitely a miracle what's going on in there!

A big shout out too, to my Daddio (Tom Boehme) who shot our "announcement" photos. I love the one above! It turned out so great. I'll post a few more from our "photo shoot" later on. Thanks Daddio!!!

Chocolate Sugar Cookies

I've always loved sugar cookies. You really can't go wrong. I mean, you can make them into any shape you want (Yoda, anyone?). And you get to decorate them and make them pretty with frosting and sprinkles. 

I also love chocolate. That one's pretty self explanatory. And I began to wonder a few months ago what it would be like to combine the two??? Amazeballs. That's what. They were so good, I took them to our Friendsmas and did a "decorate your own" and they were mostly gone that night. Then I took them to my in-laws and they were most definitely gone. Very quickly.

I found the recipe from Smitten Kitchen and they turned out great. A fun new twist on the classic Christmas sugar cookies. Here's the recipe:

Chocolate Sugar Cookies

// 350 degrees // 8-11 minutes //

Ingredients

3 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup butter, softened (I used sweet cream butter)

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa

Directions

1. Mix butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and cocoa

2. Add in flour, salt, baking powder (recipes usually say to combine the flour mixture first, but I never do and it usually turns out fine!) and mix until smooth

3. Wrap and place in fridge to chill for an hour or so

4. Roll out dough using flour so it won't stick.

5. Cut in desired shapes

6. Bake on parchment-lined baking sheet for 8-11 minutes

7. Enjoy!

Busy Season's Coming...

Husband is home finally. It's been a rough week. Rough. Week. I'm finally feeling a little better after staying home sick from work four days last week. Ugh. Isn't it the worst? Something's going around and there was no way I was going to be "that person" that still goes into work when sick. OK, I did try to go in on Thursday for a couple hours, but that plan failed and I was soon back on the couch at home. This, whatever it is - flu, bronchitis, etc. - was nasty. I was hacking up a lung, nose completely stuffed and utterly exhausted. Probably top three worst times I've been sick in my life. And Zach was gone (he's in Shelton for five weeks doing his OBGYN rotation - luckily home on the weekends). 

But now he is home and I am happier. It's just nice having that support from him to help out with the pups, pick up my trail of kleenex (if the pups haven't gotten into), and cook me a non-saltines and gatorade meal. I'm so glad he's home and so glad he's so good at taking care of me when I need him to. 

So that's where I've been for the past week... how have you been? I'm looking forward to getting back into blogging after a little bit of a break. I think I have some fun projects in the works! 

But, busy season is coming. So I'll be working a lot more with a lot less time for blogging/ projects/ cookies (booooohooooo). Probably my least favorite time of the year, but at least at work I can stay busy and feel like I'm accomplishing a lot. 

So fear not, if I'm posting less, it's just because there are not enough hours in the day and I want to try and put awesome stuff on here!

Happy New Year!

Hey guys! It's 2013! Can you believe it? So glad the world didn't end, because we had a pretty awesome holiday season with our families. We spent a few days with the Kane's and had so much fun. I love our loud and crazy family! We always have so much fun. We ended up having Christmas Eve and Christmas morning a day early since we left on Christmas Eve to head over to my parents' house. It worked out really well and it was fun having two Christmas mornings. 

At the Kane's, we frosted chocolate sugar cookies, ate way too much, made cute stocking place settings, and Buster enjoyed chillin' in his cousin's bed #awkwardpuggle.

On Christmas Eve we went down to Centralia and had a great time with my parents. More games, laughing, a couple movies (Django Unchained - yes, The Hobbit - Eh, I might have fallen asleep). We even got a White Christmas!

We rounded out the break at home with a chill weekend complete with Friendsmas, a Seahawks victory, a fun New Year's Eve, and a Homeland marathon. That show is good.

And I can't end a family holiday post without a shout out to my favorite boys (yes, that's a puppy mug I made for my husband) #christmasbeard.
