Oops... I Did It Again

I played with your heart... I bought some more fabric. Oh yeah yeah. That's as close to Britney as I'll get. :) 

Sunday I went down to PDX with my mom to see my grandparents (and my brother was there too - hi dude!). Apparently my Grandma wants to get on the Facebook. She's 87 and barely knows how to turn on her computer. But I fully support it! Go Grandma Go!

After our visit, we stopped by Fabric Depot, one of my favorite places to get fabric. Great discounts and tons and tons of fabric. I love it. I grabbed a ton of samples and had a hard time deciding! I knew I wanted navy or charcoal gray, so I started there. So many choices...

I really want this chair to be classic. I love the unique shape of it and think the shape alone is enough to make it stand out. Since this is technically Zach's chair, he wanted a manly fabric with some texture and a solid color. I was in agreement too, especially since I already have my wing back lady I reupholstered back in May with a bright fun pattern. 

So what did we settle on? We got the one on the far right! It has great texture, is pretty thick and the color is amazing. Here's another close up and then below is the fabric from afar. It looks a lot lighter in the bottom picture, but it's definitely a deep rich charcoal and I love it (and so does Zach)!

See how there's just enough texture to keep it interesting, but hopefully still solid enough to let the shape of the chair and the tufting stand out? I think we made a good choice. 

As for cost... I got six yards at $21.99/yard, plus 35% off with my Mom's coupon (thanks, Mom!), plus no sales tax(!). Total cost - $85.76. Not too bad. A lot cheaper the other wing back chair fabric, but I ended up getting an extra yard of fabric for this one since there's a lot of piping and we'll need to cover the tufted buttons. 

I love it. I got home late Sunday night and Zach already wanted to get started taking the chair apart. I was like, Whoa there buddy. Calm down. But I did like his enthusiasm. Hopefully we'll find a free weekend to take this guy apart soon. Right now he looks like a lady chair, but I can guarantee he'll be a masculine hunk of curvy tuftedness by the time we are done with him. 

My Biggest Project Yet...

Dude, I'm excited for this one. I mentioned a week ago (in this post) that I was headed to Portland with my mom to visit my grandma and grandpa and go to this awesome fabric store - Fabric Depot. Unfortunately, my grandma got sick so we couldn't go. Fortunately, she is now feeling better so we went down there yesterday! 

Believe me, I was pumped. After lunch with grams and gramps (they are 87 and 91 and still kicking it!), we went straight to Fabric Depot and proceeded to spend about two hours getting lost in the store. It is a huge warehouse filled with every fabric, notion, supply, etc. you could ever want for a sewing project. It's pretty amazing. Their prices aren't great (a little spendy), but they usually have some pretty good deals (thank goodness!). My mom gave me a 40% off coupon which helped out a lot and there was a store-wide 30% off sale going on yesterday.

We were definitely feeling overwhelmed because there are so many choices. Rows and rows of beautiful and colorful fabric. I have to say, fabric stores are like bookstores for me. I could spend literally a whole day in a book store. For some reason just being around all those books makes me want to read more and find new books and look at books and smell books and just love books. I think you get the picture... I guess I just get inspired. It's the same for fabric stores... so many choices, I want to see each and every one so I don't miss anything. And I don't get bored. Hours I tell ya. Hours.

So yesterday I was on a mission for some upholstery fabric for my little wingback chair. They have a great selection and it took me a long while to decide. Well, actually it didn't take me too long to decide on the pattern I loved, but it did take me a while to get up the nerve to spend a good chunk of money on a lot of fabric (more on that later). Here's some of the pretty patterns I was scoping out before I found my favorite. 

I really liked the yellow, but not for my chair - I can't imagine trying to line up the stripes.

This was actually outdoor fabric, but I loved the colorful take on chevron.

I liked the second one down, which in person was more of a deep navy.

Another front runner was the third down - yellow + gray ikat.

These had a little too much orange for me. They would be perfect for some outdoor furniture though!

These pinks were some of my favorites, but not for our living room. Any All of these would be amazing for a little girl's room! Someday...

OK, are you ready? Some of you already saw my fabric yesterday (thanks for the help deciding!). Here she is.

I love it! It's just what I was looking for. A big bold colorful pattern. This pattern fits perfectly in with our existing living room. It has the navy and aqua (I'm pretty much obsessed with that color palette right now) and then adds a little with the greens and gray. The pattern is big, which I think will be fine even though it's going on a chair. I like that the pattern doesn't have definite lines (so I won't have to match anything up). I can just use whatever part I can and I think it will still look great. 

I'm like fat-kid-loves-fabric excited here people! I was apprehensive at first, and it took me a long time to finally decide on this one and then get up enough nerve to spend the money. Mainly because there are just so many choices, but mostly because it is a lot of money to spend on fabric! 

Here's the cost breakdown:

@ $32.99/yard (I wouldn't have bought this fabric without the 40% off - ouch!)

= $164.95

Less 40% discount

= $98.97 plus zero tax! Yay Oregon! 

So that's a whopping savings of $65.98!!! I'll take it!

Now that the fabric is purchased, the real fun begins... time to figure out how to get this little lady reupholstered. This is by far the biggest project I've taken on so far, but I'm excited for the challenge and of course, to see the end result. Don't worry, I'll keep you posted every step of the way!

Fabric Choices & A Sunny Weekend!

Happy Friday! This week has gone by fast, no? Good thing too... it's been a hectic week at work and I'm ready for some sunshine! It's supposed to get up to 80 degrees on Sunday! Booyah. This weekend we are doing a bit of traveling for the Mother's Day festivities... Poulsbo to see Zach's mom and then Sunday I'm headed down to Portland with my Mama to see my Grandma and my brother. It will be a whirlwind, but I'm always up for seeing my family. :)

I have to share with guys you my new toy :). I had my last laptop for almost five years so I was long overdue. Isn't she pretty? I need to think of a name for her... currently taking requests.

OK back to this weekend. I'm super excited to go down to Portland and stop by this fabric store. I've been on the hunt for some amazing fabric to reupholster my wing back chair. Remember this guy (from here)?

Now that busy season is over, I am in the mood to get some projects done, and this little lady is first on my list. What kind of fabric should I get though?! I get a little overwhelmed because there are so many choices... I recently started looking online for fabric and found so many different patterns that I love. I want to do a bold and colorful pattern so it becomes a statement piece in our living room. Thoughts on any of these?

So many I can't decide! I really want to do a lot of color with mostly navy/aqua included. Any other ideas?
