German Bowl Champions!

Yesterday my brother's team (the Unicorns) won the German Bowl!! How AWESOME is that?!?

After trying (unsuccessfully) to get the game feed online, we were finally able to at least get a play by play stats update from the German Football League website. It was good, but frustrating since it was such a close game and the website wouldn't update at times. It was also frustrating when we couldn't tell how much time was left at the end of the game! It was killing us! But, the outcome was good great so I guess we can't complain. Just a small heart attack in the process. :)

Final score: 48-44 (see final game stats here or here). The Unicorns got their first German Bowl win and extended their undefeated season to 16-0 in front of 11,711 fans! Here's a video of my bro hurdling a player on the game winning drive, some fireworks after the game, and an article on the big win (make sure to translate to English!).

Black Frame Obsession?

Yes. You could say that. We had a big empty wall in our new house that needed sprucing up. Luckily, I am a hoarder of black frames.

I always love a collage of frames that fill a wall. It gives interest, color, and fun! This time, I used a technique I saw over on Young House Love (brilliant!).

Step 1: Lay your frames on the floor to get the right spacing and layout you want.
Step 2: Cut newspaper or printer paper to fit each frame.

Step 3: Use tape to put up the paper on the wall in the layout you want. The best part about using this technique is that you can play around with the layout before you put a bunch of holes in the wall. It took me a couple tries before I got the right situation. Try number one:

Step 4: Measure the hangers on the back of the pictures and mark accordingly on your paper (you can do this before you hang them up too - probably easier). Hammer in the nails on top of the paper right in to the wall.

Step 5: Pull off the paper and voila! You have yourself some nails in all the right places.

Step 6: Hang your pictures and paintings!

Now we can display all our paintings and pictures from our travels. I love looking at them. I find myself gazing over every day and remembering all our fun memories. I don't usually ask for money, but I think this is a really good cause and have jumped on board because it has affected my family in such a big way. Both my grandparents passed away from heart disease and Zach's family has also been affected by heart disease. 

I am joining my coworkers on October 15th to participate in the American Heart Association Heart Walk here in Seattle (3 mile walk through downtown Seattle). We'll be helping the AHA fight our nation's No. 1 and No. 4 causes of death - heart disease and stroke. Funds raised support research, community services, and public and professional education programs to help fight and prevent heart disease around the nation.

An Apple A Day

Lately, we've been trying to eat healthier. Fruit, veggies and meat; minimal carbs. It's going okay now that I realized my new favorite fruit is apples. They are so delicious (especially with some peanut butter). It was a pleasant surprise to find that in our backyard we have a Japanese Apple-Pear tree.

We were pretty excited when we noticed the apples starting to grow and get ripe. So we got out the ladder and started picking (Buster tried to help).

And they are pretty tasty apple-pears! Definitely have the texture of the pear, with the flavoring of both. Love it. Do you guys have any surprise fruit trees or maybe an herb garden (we have this too!) in your backyards? Anything really tasty? Or kind of weird?

Paris: Day 4

Day 4 of Paris here we come! We WILL get through this Europe Trip. Bear with me. :) This day was a particularly wet one. Being our second pouring down rain day in Paris so far, we learned our lesson and dressed accordingly. With rain jackets in tow, we took the Metro across town to the Eiffel Tower (finally, right?!)!

We got there early (about 8:30 - it opened at 9) to wait in line and get tickets. Thank goodness we did! It got super crowded but we were one of the first groups up there and it was great. We stood in line in front of these four British college girls. It was pretty entertaining listening to them. Fun fact: we saw the same group of British girls at least two other times on our trip in different parts of Paris. Small world city!

Oh, also while we were waiting we had the best cappuccino we had on our trip from the little coffee and pastry stand underneath the Eiffel Tower. It was cheap and SO yummy.

Happy (October) Weekend!

I can't believe tomorrow is already October! But I am super excited. I love fall. And I'm ready to embrace it. I'm cleaning and cooking tonight and then we have both sets of in laws coming over tomorrow for a BBQ/games shindig. It can get pretty crazy when the Boehmes and the Kanes get together. I'm so glad I love my family. :)
